Calciban is a polymeric dispersing agent that will keep inorganic deposits from precipitating out and bonding to glue rolls by inhibiting the growth of large calcium carbonate crystals. The calcium carbonate crystal deposits cause the scale seen on boxplant glue rolls from the use of wastewater or hard water in making corrugating adhesives. Calciban can also be used in water treatment systems to keep the hard water deposits from building up in the pipes and on the equipment. Only small amounts are needed to show results: 7 parts per million of Calciban can keep 200 parts per million of calcium carbonate dispersed in the adhesive and greatly limit scale build up.
